It is used in tanks that cannot be installed on the side. The float is displaced in the tank according to the filling rate of the tank; the liquid level changes to cause the floating ball in the bottle to move; thus the tank level can be mechanically observed.

Like other systems, top-mounted magnetic level gauges can also be manufactured for automated systems.
